Jesse Willems Luz
For the Photo Festival Brussels, artist Jesse Willems presents the exhibition LUZ.
Jesse Willems’ practice always begins with photography. He focuses on details that often go unnoticed, inviting the viewer to share his way of seeing. Each work starts from a base image, the photograph, which is extended by an additional image that continues into the passe-partout. This added image is chosen in a seemingly arbitrary way and resonates with the associative logic of large language models (LLMs). Through this gesture, the image remains in motion while simultaneously resisting further appropriation. While his collages are typically layered with found materials, the photographs in LUZ are presented on their own. No longer wrapped in aged paper, they are framed in a distinctive way that allows each image to take centre stage and reveal its subtle nuances.
