Founded in Antwerp in 2015 by collector and patron Elie Schönfeld, Schönfeld Gallery is active in Brussels and Antwerp. Its Brussels space is located at Rivoli, a former 1970s shopping centre that has become a vibrant hub for contemporary art. In September 2026, the gallery opened a new venue in Antwerp’s Nieuw Zuid district, sharing the premises with Galerie Zwart Huis. Situated on Jos Smolderenstraat, among a growing community of contemporary art galleries, the spacious new venue marks a new chapter in the gallery’s programme.

Schönfeld Gallery works with emerging and established artists from Belgium and abroad, bringing together different generations and perspectives. With a taste for the unconventional, it presents distinctive work across disciplines, with particular attention to works on paper and the role of drawing within an artist’s practice.

The gallery represents a deliberately small group of artists, building lasting relationships through close collaboration and open dialogue. Greet Umans, director and driving force of the gallery, develops the programme in conversation with each artist, seeking contexts that allow their work to unfold. Through exhibitions, publications, institutional collaborations and international exchange, she supports both the development of their practices and their engagement with a wider audience.

An open and personal approach also defines the gallery’s relationship with its visitors. Across its two locations, exhibitions, artist talks, performances and artist-led projects offer space for exploration, experimentation and conversation. The art bar in Brussels extends this spirit of hospitality, inviting visitors to spend time with the work, meet the artists and follow the evolution of their practices.

In the meantime, the art experience does not have to be interrupted.

Every month, the bar will put one artist in the spotlights, Embellished with original objects and limited editions (ranging from scarfs to LP’s and ceramics), in Schönfeld Bar you will be surrounded by artwork from all over the world.
