Robin Leforestier
Le Grand Tour

For painter Robin Leforestier, working on location is essential. It allows him to truly experience a place, turning the act of painting into a kind of performance—a direct interaction with the surroundings. His works are tangible traces of those lived moments. In Brussels, where urban structures and natural forms constantly collide, he finds inspiration. The sharp lines of the erratic architecture contrast beautifully with the organic shapes of nature. This tension becomes a play of perspective and light, continuously challenging him to shift his way of observing and painting.

Although now based in Provence, Leforestier returns to Brussels each year to stay connected to the city and its energy. For him, this city is a creative and chaotic playground, full of unexpected structures and social contrasts—an ideal environment for painting in public space, where he prefers to work. His studio has no walls; it exists wherever interaction happens—with passersby, with sounds, with the elements.

These elements can be unpredictable and demanding, but they are challenges Leforestier embraces. From improvised shelters to patiently waiting for the right light, flexibility is key. In Le Grand Tour, he captures seven locations in and around Brussels, each chosen by someone with a personal connection to the place. For Leforestier, their stories are just as important as the view or the final painting itself. It is this shared experience that gives the canvas its meaning.
