Simon Kroug

Simon Kroug, a multidisciplinary Swiss artist — painter and printmaker — born in Geneva in 1977 and a graduate of ECAL (École cantonale d’art de Lausanne), maps the emotional resonance of places through his art. His works are not mere depictions of landscapes, but sensory narratives in which memory and perception intertwine. Guided by his own photographs taken during travels and solitary walks, Kroug reconstructs horizons and vistas infused with echoes of lived experience. The use of fragile materials, such as Japanese and Thai paper, becomes a metaphor for the delicacy and transience of memory itself. Lines appear in varied forms, textures shift between presence and blur, and colors — from contemplative blues to deep blacks and occasional flashes of orange — evoke moments when the past briefly comes into focus before fading again. Kroug’s paintings and prints invite viewers to slow down and enter an intimate, poetic dialogue with the landscapes he reimagines — places both familiar and elusive, suspended between remembrance and reverie.
