Guido Verhaeghe

Guido Verhaeghe °1939  (un)ambiguously opts for the polarity of man > < woman, woman > <  man which is depicted  both in architectural and organic visual language in which colour, texture, tape and collage fuse in a delirium of ecstasy, security and osmosis.

The use of colour, once exuberant, once restrained and almost monochrome, always remains sophisticated.

form is influenced by american expressionism; the thematic of his oeuvre is to be approached through the collection of poems “oostakkerse gedichten” by hugo claus in casu “livia” (1955).

He constantly searches for constructed landscapes in which the paradox of “the impossibility to reach each other fully” tries to take pictorial form.

recently, he has been inspired by aerial shots from the space shuttle columbia to label his latest works as “from google earth views to body landscapes”.
